Maldives blue water with huts
The Romantic Maldives for a vacation full of romance

The Maldives for a Romantic Destination

One of the most romantic destinations you could possibly imagine is the Maldives. White sand, beautiful clear blue water, huge coral reefs, summer all year long, dreamy overwater villas – all that makes it a perfect Valentines Day destination. The Maldives are fine to visit all year long, however, the best season (with more chances to see long periods of the sun) lasts from January to April. That means that the Valentines Day fits in the best possible period for visiting the Maldives!

There are plenty of different islands in the Maldives and hotels for any budget. If you’re on a budget, you can stay in one of the guesthouses in Maafushi or Fulhadhoo. However, if you have a bigger budget, you can stay in one of the hotels on the private islands. We stayed in the hotel Anantara Veli – it’s an adult-only hotel that is composed only of overwater villas. It’s also not that big and it felt empty and very private. Like a paradise only for us both. Maldives is a destination I would wholeheartedly recommend for the Valentines Day (and not only)

Prague Castle And Charles Bridge for Valentines Day
Prague Castle And Charles Bridge for Valentines Day

Valentines week in Prague

Prague’s historical architecture is what makes it the most romantic, I think. The picturesque city can be a wonderful destination to visit as a couple, even in winter. People often compare Prague to Paris, but much more compact.

The most romantic hotel I know is Hotel U Raka (By the Crayfish). Located in the hidden little area called Nový Svět (New World) near Prague Castle, the hotel looks like a beautiful wooden cabin. Inside it’s designed in a cute but chic country style.

Not far from the hotel U Raka, you can find a restaurant housed in a boat on the Vltava River. It’s Grosetto Marina Restaurant, now simply known as Marina Ristorante. While the Italian menu is fantastic, it’s mainly the views of the Prague Castle that make this restaurant especially romantic. All glass windows keep the view unobstructed, while still keeping guests warm.

Weather permitting, one of the most romantic things to do in Prague is strolling along the river Vltava. But if it’s too cold, just go from one cozy café to another and explore the narrow streets of the Old Town. Head where the crowds don’t tread and you’ll feel like in a fairytale. A heavy snowfall can add an extra dimension, however it can’t be arranged. 🙂

Romantic Nice coastline
Romantic Nice coastline

Romance in the South of France

The South of France has a well-deserved reputation for romance and Nice is the perfect spot to experience it. Set along the Mediterranean Sea with the French Alps in the distance, it’s the perfect destination for a romantic getaway.

During your romantic rendezvous, you can spend your days exploring the charming Old Town and then linger at an outdoor cafe for a cappuccino. Wander through the flower market along the Cours Saleya and then across the street to the Promenade des Anglais and watch the turquoise blue water breaking on the shoreline.

For a panoramic view of the Port, the Nice skyline and the distant Alps, follow the stairway to Castle Hill. Then walk along the rocky path around Nice Cape for stunning views of the rugged coastline. For the more adventurous, hike up to Mont Boron and admire the view from Antibes all the way to Monaco. On a clear day you can even see Italy!

In the evening, La Reserve Restaurant is the ideal setting for a romantic dinner with a panoramic view of Nice Port. Sip a glass of wine while watching the sun sink into the Mediterranean Sea, and then head to Old Town for some live music at one of the many jazz bars.

The perfect spot to call home during your romantic rendezvous in Nice is the historic Negresco Hotel. Located right along the Mediterranean Sea, the pink dome of this belle-epoque building stands out along the Promenade des Anglais. The incredibly posh interior feels like walking through a museum filled with an amazing French art collection. Let yourself be pampered in the 5-star luxury of the Negresco.

If these walls could talk, they’d tell tales of Salvador Dali, Grace Kelly, Liz Taylor and even the Beatles. But the walls of this hotel are discreet and you can be sure, what happens at the Negresco stays at the Negresco

Tel Aviv Romantic Sunset
Tel Aviv Romantic Sunset

Tel Aviv for Valentines Romance

When thinking of romantic destinations, Tel Aviv isn’t the first that comes to mind. The second largest city in Israel is known to be a party town, packed as it is with bars and clubs. However, it can be a fantastic destination for romance seekers thanks to a bunch of lovely sights and unique experiences.

Travelers in search of romance have a wide selection of hotels in Tel Aviv. Market House, in Old Jaffa, is a fantastic boutique hotel with gorgeous, eclectic rooms with some of the best views of Jaffa Clock Tower and Jaffa Market, and it’s located next to the seaside promenade which is perfect for romantic walks.

Bicicletta is a lovely gastropub with excellent food and a great romantic atmosphere, especially if sitting outside in the evening, when everything is lit.

The nicest thing to do in Tel Aviv if looking for romance is taking a walk along the beach. The best time to go is before sunset: walking towards Old Jaffa, the view of the sun setting behind the sea and the changing light make it an unforgettable experience. With its narrow cobbled alleys, historic buildings and small artists parlors, Old Jaffa is another beautiful romantic place to go.

A Valentine Gift of Bora Bora

Measuring just 11 square miles and located 143 miles northwest of Papeete (the capital of French Polynesia), Bora Bora  is for many travelers the epitome of Tahiti’s South Pacific romantic luxury. For us, the reality of our experience somehow manages to surpass our lofty expectations. From the gorgeous, cerulean blue waters to the warm and welcoming Polynesian culture, it was everything you want from a romantic destination.

It didn’t hurt matters that we stayed at the Four Seasons Resort in Bora Bora. Its idyllic over-water bungalows are surrounded by stunning natural beauty, from the iconic summits of Mount Pahia and Mount Oetmanu to the brilliant blue hues of the lagoon inside its barrier reef. We spent days snorkeling in the resort’s Ruahatu Marine Sanctuary, savoring indulgent treatments at their serene spa, and soaking up the sun on our private balcony.

The island’s interior is lush tropical forest, fragrant with the scent of frangipani and dotted with remnants of the U.S. Military supply base that was built on the island during World War II. But its most popular tourist attractions are in the water, where you can dive for black pearls or snorkel with Black-Tipped Reef Sharks and Stingrays.

At night we were treated to impossibly romantic dinners for two on the resort’s beautiful beach, toasting with Champagne to a lifelong dream come true. Sumptuous meals included fresh seafood and locally grown fruits and vegetables, with the scent of tropical flower arrangements filling our noses and the sight of the most beautiful sunsets we’d ever seen. The only way to top it was waking up to the stunning sunrise from our bungalow the next morning, knowing we’d get to do it all again!

A Romantic Break in Kauai Hawaii

The island of Kaua’i in Hawaii is the perfect romantic destination for Valentine’s Day, especially for those who love the outdoors and want to experience variety on their getaway. The island is peaceful and quiet in February, making it easy for couples to enjoy time together on island time. Kaua’i is home to relaxing beaches, amazing hikes, and beautiful waterfalls. Couples can enjoy numerous romantic adventures together, such as exploring the Wailua River in a two-person kayak and hiking to the remote Uluwehi Falls (also known as the Secret Falls). If weather allows, hike the Hanakapi’ai Falls Trail for spectacular views of the coast and waterfall. Rent a car and enjoy the fresh air and views at Waimea Canyon (also known as the Grand Canyon of the Pacific). Snorkel with the turtles at Anini Beach and take a catamaran tour to the Na Pali Coast.

The Grand Kyatt Kauai Resort & Spa is the perfect option for romantic accommodations. Enjoy a beautiful view of the ocean from the balcony of your spacious room, float down the lava-rock lined lazy river, and relax with a pokahu (warm stone) couples’ massage at their Anara Spa. For a romantic dinner, make reservations at Plantation Gardens at Poipu Beach. Arrive early and take a peaceful walk through their beautifully lit gardens, then enjoy their amazing, authentic Hawaiian menu.

Koh Lipe Thailand
Koh Lipe Thailand

A Valentine Special in Koh Lipe Thailand

Koh Lipe is definitely one of the most romantic Thai islands for a valentine’s day trip. Imagine an island which is two hours by speedboat from the mainland. There is a beautiful laid-back small island vibe. There are no raging parties, just beach bars with chilled tunes playing as the sun goes down over the ocean, where you can kick back with a cocktail in hand. It truly is the perfect couple destination.

Perhaps the most romantic hotel on Koh Lipe is Castaway Resort on Sunrise Beach. Here you can find yourself a beautiful double storey wooden bungalow right along the beach. Hang out upstairs watching the sunrise through the wide double glass doors, or gently swing back and forth in your hammock downstairs listening to the waves crash on the shore. If you just want to sleep in, then you can do that too in your large double bed with the ocean view.

For a beautiful restaurant you won’t have to walk far. Simply grab yourself a meal and a cocktail at Castaway’s own restaurant. With a great selection of fusion Thai foods served right on the beach, you can’t go wrong. They’re open from an early breakfast to a late dinner, so you will always be fed well.

Later in the day grab a par of snorkels and explore the reef together or try take a two-person sea kayak out around the small islets just off Sunrise Beach. There is no shortage of activities to keep you both busy.

Sri Lanka -Pidurangala
Sri Lanka -Pidurangala

Romantic Sri Lanka for Valentines

A few months ago, my husband and I visited Sri Lanka for the first time. We loved the country, especially because it offers an incredible variety of sights and attractions without having to move too far. In fact one of the nicknames the country goes by is ‘Miniature Asia’ – because it offers so many quintessentially Asian experiences, like temples, beaches, elephants, tea plantations and more, without having to travel too far.

We spent two weeks in Sri Lanka and our favourite destination was definitely Sigiriya, the famous rock fortress located in the central part of the country. However, to be honest, more than Sigiriya itself I loved Pidurangala, a rocky hill with a temple and stunning views over Sigiriya – and next to no tourists in sight, perfect if you want to go on a hike with your significant other. Another cool place nearby is Kaudulla National Park, where you can witness a huge ‘Elephant Gathering’ every day between July and November, with hundreds of elephants meeting near a reservoir to drink and socialize.

A wonderful romantic hotel near all these places is Cinnamon Lodge Habarana, with a really secluded feel surrounded by nature and on the edge of a lake. Accommodation is in cottages rather than rooms, spread all around the hotel’s extensive grounds. For a true romantic occasion, you can ask for a special candlelight dinner by the lake – and if you’re lucky, an elephant may be walking by!

Cook Islands
Cook Islands

A Valentine’s Day on Cook Island

There’s something about South Pacific destinations that makes them idyllic and romantic place to visit. Warm weather, beautiful beaches, relaxing atmosphere – arguably, this is the best region to celebrate a special romantic time with a loved one!

Consider adding Cook Islands to be added to your bucket list. This group of islands is a magical place to be. Starting in the capital Rarotonga, there are plenty of wonderful things to do here. Rarotonga is one of the biggest towns in the Pacific, and you can stroll around the town center to shop, visit a few legendary markets and even get a Cook Islands drivers license and take a scooter around the main island.

It’s also worth exploring and sampling Cook Islands food! There are several places where you can find Cook Islands specialties, including the Te Vara Nui village open house and performance show. You will taste some of these specialties while watching one of the best Polynesian art performances in the Pacific islands.

If you are a foodie, check out the Tamarind House Restaurant. It is one of the most romantic spots for dining and celebrating special occasions. Dinner time is particularly special, with beautiful sunset views and garden lights.

Don’t miss the small and beautiful island of Aitutaki. This day trip from Rarotonga one of the most popular; however, we recommend staying here for a few nights. There are all-inclusive romantic resorts here, such as Pacific Resort Aitutaki or Tamanu Beach, that come highly recommended. And of course, don’t forget to do the Vaka Lagoon Cruise to explore the beautiful beaches and water of Aitutaki!

Romantic Destinations Lake Garda
Romantic Destinations Lake Garda

Italian Romance on Lake Garda

The most romantic place I’ve ever been is Lake Garda, Italy. Fresh air, mountain views, quaint, pastel-coloured lakeside villages and plenty of amazing Italian food makes for the perfect romantic couples break. Spend your days zig-zagging across the lake to villages like Limone, with its tiny harbour and narrow streets, Riva del Garda with its stunning setting at the top of the lake between two mountains, and Malcesine, where you can go up to the top of Monte Baldo on a cable car and see the whole lake spread out below you.

Of all the villageson the lake, the most romantic is Sirmione. Set on a narrow peninsula which extends out from the southern coast of Lake Garda, Sirmione is divided in two by the moat of its fairy-tale castle, and boasts the ruins of a huge Roman villa at the tip. The Romans were attracted by Sirmione’s natural thermal springs, and the healing waters are still a tourist attraction today.

Sirmione is a must-see wherever you’re staying on Lake Garda, but staying in Sirmione itself is a wonderful experience. One of the most romantic places to stay in Sirmione is the Grand Hotel Terme. This hotel takes everything that’s wonderful about Sirmione and puts it into a single package; fabulous views of the lake, an elegant thermal spa which looks out onto the walls of the 13th century castle and a location in the heart of the village, convenient for day trips for the rest of the lake.

Muscat Oman
Muscat Oman

Valentines Vacation in Muscat Oman

Muscat the capital city of Oman is one of the most naturally diverse yet lesser-visited cities in the Middle East. With tourism not being on its top in Muscat, it is a perfect destination to have a romantic getaway. The city is not populated at all, with cozy and pretty small cafes and spots along the beaches for couples to spend some quality time together.

The Grand Hyatt hotel in Muscat which is situated right in front of an extremely serene and picturesque beach is the best bet to stay in for a romantic holiday. The hotel is highly rated for the couples and it offers many fun couple related activities. There is a couple themed ballroom night every Thursday in the hotel where couples can drink and dance to live music. Also, a romantic late-night stroll on the beach right in front of the hotel is a great way to end the day.

There are many seafront and city view restaurants in Muscat apt for the couples. The Cave complex is a restaurant arena built on top of a hill with a panoramic view of the entire city. It is considered as the ideal dinner date spot among the locals as well. You can be seated at a corner table enjoying your date with a view of the city and live music playing in the background. Strolling on the coastal corniche road in the Muttrah area, dining at the beachfront cafes or enjoying karaoke and live music at all the pubs and bars makes this small city around the sea an ideal romantic getaway.

Mirror Lakes South Island New Zealand
Mirror Lakes South Island New Zealand

New Zealand for Valentines Day Romance

New Zealand’s South Island is the perfect romantic travel destination, mostly because there is a huge variety in the way you can travel and the things you can see. You can rent a van and have a romantic camping trip (is there anything more romantic than waking up next to your loved one next to a deserted beach?), stick to the cities and devour large amounts of food and drink or head to the hills for day walks and be back in the lap of luxury by night time. You’ll have incredible vistas all to yourself (if you know where to go) and you don’t even need to walk for long to see some of the best views. Of course, you can also head out on multi-day hikes, which is (in a way) also pretty romantic.

Hot pools are in fashion on New Zealand’s South Island these days and they offer up a great way to relax after a long day of travelling. Whichever style of travel you choose you’ll be able to find stylish and romantic places to stay. If you’re on a budget that’ll obviously be camping grounds (some with great views) but spend a little more and you’ll find lots of boutique hotels and holiday houses.

Romantic Hotel: Akaroa Village Inn – great harbour views right in the midst of Akaroa, a romantic village with a strong French flavour.

Romantic Place to Eat: Fish and chips on the beach. This New Zealand tradition is a great option on a long, sunny summer evening.

Valentine Romance in Gdansk Poland

Gdansk is considered as one of the most romantic places in Poland. Many travelers choose this city as their Valentine’s Day destination. That’s not surprising – is there a better way to spend Valentine’s Day than exploring beautiful seaside city with lots of monuments, pubs and restaurants?

Gdansk is well-known for its romantic atmosphere. Strolling on picturesque cobbled streets of Old Town is simply a must-do for love-struck couples. The historic streets become especially charming in the evening, when street lights add mysterious spell to the buildings.

While we explore Old Town, it is worth to take a walk along Motlawa river embankments. If we get a bit tired, we can visit one of the restaurants located on the embankments and enjoy picturesque view on the river.

Another idea for a romantic date is a ride on AmberSky – 50-metre high observation wheel with 36 air-conditioned and heated gondolas. The ride lasts 15 minutes and provides visitors with unforgettable experience – the views are breathtaking!

After the ride, the couples may visit Chlebowy Bridge, also called Love Bridge. There is possibility to attach a padlock on the bridge to seal their love.

If we look for a natural getaway, we should visit Oliwa park. This spacious rural park is famous for its abundant vegetation and exotic flowers. When in Oliwa park, it is also worth to visit Oliwa Palm House.

A Thailand Valentines Couples Massage

When it comes to traveling in Thailand there are loads of options for romantic things to do. From watching the sun set over the sea to drinking a refreshing cocktail from one of Bangkok’s many rooftop bars. One of my favorite romantic things to do in Thailand involves some of the most amazing couples massages and spa treatments. The Thais do massage well, but there is more to spas in Thailand than typical Thai massages. Our favorite spa in Bangkok is Dahra Spa near Silom, which offers a 4 hour couples spa day with a massage, wrap, scrub, and facial.

Even more romantic is the spa at Amatara Phuket, a luxury hilltop resort. They have secluded villas with sea views,  and one of the most amazing spas in Thailand. They are the only Thai hotel to have a hammam and you can book a private couples hammam treatment. The entire treatment involves a series of herbal showers, steams, massages, and scrubs. The hammam room is beautifully decorated and ends with a relaxing rest in a himalayan salt room. It doesn’t get more romantic than that.
